The notification requirement comes into force on 19 July 2018. From that date, operators will have one month to notify the competent authority of their existing installations. Notification is to be made via an online portal (www.kavka.bund.de).
This applies to all installations falling within the scope of the 42nd BImSchV; this includes, amongst other things, wet scrubbers for exhaust air treatment and cooling towers. There are only a few exceptions or exclusion criteria.
The Regulation came into force in August 2017 and sets out specific requirements for the protection and prevention measures relating to systems, with a view to preventing the possible spread of Legionella. These include, for example, in-house inspections and laboratory tests, inspections of the systems by experts, and documentation in the operating log.
